The possibility that Trump might make a deal with Democrats and compromise on DACA or the border wall has driven some of his most hardcore supporters out of their minds.

When it seemed as though Republicans could not be in worse dissarray, Donald Trump stunned Washington on Wednesday by turning around and talking with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer about a possible immigration compromise.

Thursday morning, he said he was open to legislation to protect young immigrants — even if it did not include a border wall.

By all accounts, Trump has no idea what he is doing in these talks, and he is still trying to put up a hardline front, even falsely claiming he already built the wall. But none of this is sitting well with some of his most prominent supporters, who are in uproar.

White supremacist Rep. Steve King of Iowa said that if Trump agrees to “DACA amnesty,” then “No promise is credible.”

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs said in a statement the wall is non-negotiable. “Before any reform occurs to our immigration system, the wall must be built to keep our promise, restore trust, and secure our borders. Nothing short of a physical wall will suffice.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was outraged that Trump did not consult with him first:

Former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh bluntly said that if Trump compromises on immigration, “He will be through.”

Walsh did not stop there. In an appearance on MSNBC, Walsh engaged in another tirade:

WALSH: This issue got Trump elected, period. No amnesty. Build the damn wall. If he betrays that promise, Craig, this was the essence of his campaign. If he betrays that promise, he’s dead, he is dead among his base — millions and millions of voters will abandon him.

Conspiracy theorist and fervent Trump supporter Mike Cernovich offered this simple lament:

Right-wing author Ann Coulter even threw around the I-word:

Meanwhile, Trump has also faced a series of attacks in conservative media outlets. Steve Bannon’s Breitbart called Trump a liar. Townhall’s Kurt Schlichter penned an article warning Trump that “Schumer Is Playing You For A Fool.”

And this was Thursday’s front page at the Drudge Report:

Trump’s supporters have stuck by him as he attacked the free press, bragged about sexual assault, and refused to condemn neo-Nazi rioters. But working with Democrats crosses the line.
