Trump 'not at all' worried about death threats he's inciting

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is facing death threats because of Trump's bigotry and anti-Muslim rhetoric — but Trump is completely fine with putting her life in danger.

On Monday, Trump revealed that he does not care that his anti-Muslim smears against a sitting congresswoman have incited violent threats against her.

After being told that his tweet about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) "has led to direct threats on her life,"  a reporter with Minnesota's KSTP asked Trump if he had any "second thoughts" about his actions.

"No, not at all," Trump responded.

Trump then went on to attack Omar, who is Muslim, using bigoted anti-Muslim tropes. He said that Omar is "unpatriotic" and "disrespectful," and claimed that "she's got a way about her that's very very bad, I think, for our country."

He also declared that Omar — a Somali refugee who rose to become one of the first Muslim congresswomen in the United States — doesn't understand "real life."

Trump's attacks on Omar escalated on Friday evening when he posted a video of Omar speaking about anti-Muslim bias, taken out of context and spliced with video of the 9/11 terror attacks, to falsely imply Omar was downplaying the seriousness of the attack.

After Trump pushed the video out to millions of people on social media, Omar released a statement saying she had "experienced an increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the president's video." As a result of Trump's actions, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked for a security review to be done to ensure Omar's safety.

Trump has a long history of fanning the flames of hatred against Muslims. During his campaign, Trump lied about how Muslims reacted to 9/11, falsely claiming some were celebrating the attack. Trump also campaigned on the idea of banning all Muslims from coming to the United States in order to stoke "the fears among an older, white voting base that the country," according to the New York Times.

Trump's longstanding hatred of Muslims and Muslim-Americans is now endangering the life of a sitting U.S. congresswoman. And Trump's reaction is to shrug his shoulders and continue his bigoted attacks, unconcerned about the consequences his vile rhetoric may bring about.
