"Our players represent the best of our country," said Mayor Jim Kenney.

Denouncing Trump as “childish” and a “scary guy” who demands fealty from all, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney ripped into Trump Tuesday morning after the Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, were abruptly disinvited to the White House this week.

The mayor also emphasized that Trump, who loves to tout his patriotism, sat out the Vietnam War while thousands of young Americans died overseas.

“When he had the opportunity to serve his country, five times he ducked out,” said Kinney, referring to Trump’s five deferments from Vietnam, one of which was a supposed bone spur he suffered from. (Trump was a “star athlete” in high school before he suddenly discovered he had a foot problem during the draft.)

Trump’s public snub of the Eagles, after most of the players had already made it clear they had no intention of sharing the spotlight with Trump for a traditional White House visit, continues Trump’s effort to politicize the silent sideline protests that some NFL players have been making during the playing of the national anthem.

He even recently suggested NFL players who express their First Amendment right should leave the country.

The fact is, no Eagles players last year took a knee during the pre-game tradition. But after the NFL recently caved to Trump’s pressuring the instituted new rules designed to punish the protests next season, the issue once again flared up. And Trump is using it as a pretext to disinvite the Eagles, who didn’t want to show up in the first place.

“I’m really proud of our players. Our players represent the best of our country,” Kinney stressed on CNN.

Asked what message Trump is sending by snubbing the Super Bowl champs, Kinney said, “Basically what he’s saying is, unless you kneel to me, unless you pay homage to me as President of The United States I’m going to disinvite you from the People’s House.”

On Twitter, the mayor added that Trump’s just, “a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”

Trump’s also a draft dodger who brandishes fake patriotism.
