Even Trump's own press secretary knows there's a good chance a recording exists of Trump using the ugliest of racial slurs.

Trump is furious that once again, he faces allegations that he has used the N-word.

“I don’t have that word in my vocabulary, and never have,” he angrily insisted Monday night in the middle of what is now a two-day tirade against his former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman.

But White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders isn’t so sure about that.

“Can you stand at the podium and guarantee the American people they’ll never hear Donald Trump utter the N-word on a recording, in any context?” NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker asked during Tuesday’s press briefing.

“I can’t guarantee anything,” Sanders answered.

“Just to be clear, you can’t guarantee it?” Welker asked again.

“Look, I haven’t been in every single room,” Sanders said. “I can tell you the president has addressed this directly.”

“I haven’t been in every room,” Sanders said, “but the president addressed this directly.”

It’s an extraordinary admission from Sanders. She has never shied away from defending Trump’s most disgusting slurs and attacks, or from spinning his most egregious lies. She has never hesitated to lie on his behalf.

And yet on this — the simple question of whether the occupant of the Oval Office has ever used one of the most hateful, racist slurs imaginable — she demurs.

To defend Trump, as he did, that of course no such recording exists, is a bridge too far. There just might be such a recording, and if it ever does come to light, she will have to answer for that.

If she had said Tuesday that of course no such tape existed, she’d have to explain her lies too.

And even she cannot bring herself to do that.

Trump is a racist. He has a long and disgusting and very public record of racist actions and rhetoric. Even in his attempt to defend himself against these latest charges of racism, he could not help but lash out with ugly racist rhetoric, calling Omarosa a “dog.”

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether the particular tape in question — an outtake from a recording of “The Apprentice” — exists.

Trump is so racist that even the woman usually so happy to defend him knows she dare not have his back on this one.
