The star has already been vandalized repeatedly. Now, the city wants to remove it entirely.
In just the latest sign of how widely disliked Trump is, the West Hollywood City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve a proposal that would remove Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The council now plans to send a formal letter to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles City Council, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce asking them to consider the proposal, ABC News reported Tuesday morning.
The Chamber of Commerce will have the final say in removing the star.
The proposal, which was brought forth by West Hollywood council members John D’Amico and Lindsey Horvath, cited Trump’s treatment of women as a primary rationale for removing the star.
“Similar to how certain members of the entertainment community have been removed from the Academy of Motion Pictures, due to their actions toward women, reflecting a stance on their values by the Academy, this is an opportunity for decision-makers to take a stand on their values in support of women and against disturbing treatment of women,” the West Hollywood City Council said ahead of Monday night’s vote, according to ABC.
The council also cited Trump’s denial of climate change, his cruel family separation policy, his treatment of transgender people, and his failure to take seriously the issue of Russia interference in the 2016 election, CBS News reports.
Trump originally received his star on the Walk of Fame in 2007 for his work as producer of the Miss Universe Pageant.
It has since been vandalized numerous times, most recently on July 25 by a man with a pickax.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Trump faces daily protests outside of the White House that started when he returned from his meeting with Putin. They have continued every single day since his return more than three weeks ago.
On Monday night, Rosie O’Donnell and the stars of the musical “Hamilton” showed up and started singing alongside the protesters.
Trump is on vacation this week, but no matter where he goes, one thing is for sure: Wide swaths of the country can’t stand him, and they’re not about to let him forget that anytime soon.
