A vote for Devin Nunes is a vote for the dark side.
Democrat Andrew Janz got a big boost this weekend from “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill, who told his nearly 3 million Twitter followers that Janz “actually deserves” to serve in Congress — unlike Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), whom Hamill described as a “Trump lackey.”
“Don’t just vote AGAINST Trump lackey @RepDevinNunes, whose priority is protecting his boss from the Russia Investigation,” Hamill tweeted. “Vote FOR 1st time politician Andrew Janz @JanzforCongress who actually deserves the job.”
Hamill also linked to a recent Rolling Stone interview with Janz and advised his followers to read more about the Democratic nominee, a prosecutor seeking to unseat Nunes in California’s 22nd Congressional District.
Hamill, famous for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in five of the “Star Wars” films, has waded into politics before. He once publicly slammed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and FCC Chairman Ajit Pai for supporting the repeal of net neutrality, declaring Pai “unworthy 2 wield a lightsaber.” He has also endorsed other Democrats in congressional and Senate races.
Hamill is not the first to observe Nunes’ devotion to protecting Trump. The Fresno Bee — the hometown paper that endorsed Nunes for 16 years straight — dubbed the congressman “Trump’s stooge” for his efforts to undercut the Russia investigation, and endorsed Janz earlier this month.
In the Rolling Stone interview Hamill tweeted, Janz is described as “standing up for the rule of law,” in sharp contrast to the “national security threat” posed by Nunes’ obsession with protecting Trump at all costs.
Nunes has run an extended campaign to shield Trump from the Russia investigation, a campaign that includes a plot to oust Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and a relentless effort to publish documents that could endanger national security.
At the same time, Nunes has neglected his constituents and failed to accomplish anything for the residents of his district.
Janz told Rolling Stone that Nunes “was asked by a local paper what his number-one accomplishment was, and the best that he could muster up was to say that he brought attention to the fact that California has a water issue.”
Unlike Nunes, Janz has promised to be an independent voice in Congress, and to back projects that will benefit his constituents.
