Trump melts down after his campaign's own polls show him losing key 2020 states

Enraged at the thought of losing, Trump is declaring poll numbers from his own pollster to be 'fake news.'

Trump's fragile ego strikes again.

The tweeter-in-chief took to his favorite social media platform Wednesday morning to declare that polling conducted by his own campaign, that shows Trump losing to a top Democratic presidential contender in key states like Texas, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, is "fake news."

"The Fake News has never been more dishonest than it is today," Trump whined. "Thank goodness we can fight back on Social Media. Their new weapon of choice is Fake Polling, sometimes referred to as Suppression Polls (they suppress the numbers). Had it in 2016, but this is worse."

Trump continued: "The Fake (Corrupt) News Media said they had a leak into polling done by my campaign which, by the way and despite the phony and never ending Witch Hunt, are the best numbers WE have ever had. They reported Fake numbers that they made up & don’t even exist. WE WILL WIN AGAIN!"

Trump's meltdown appears to have been spurred by an article in the New York Times, which reported that Trump told his own campaign aides to lie about a, "devastating 17-state poll conducted by his campaign pollster" that showed Trump losing to current Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden.

Trump's tweet also comes after a Quinnipiac University poll found Trump losing to every top-tier Democratic presidential contender.

Trump's response to polling showing him behind is to declare that the poll numbers are fake, effectively sticking his head in the sand rather than do anything to change his fortunes.

Of course, polling isn't "fake" just because it doesn't show Trump in the lead. That shouldn't even need to be said.

But lying is the only way Trump knows how to get himself out of a pickle.

Unfortunately for Trump, lying about polls being fake doesn't magically change the poll results in his favor. The 2020 election is a long way away, but Trump is not in good shape heading into his reelection bid.
