In his third day of his losing battle against the NFL, Trump turns on the fans.
Donald Trump started tweeting before 7 a.m. this morning to once again demand the firing of American citizens who disagree with him, encourage NFL fans to “refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country,” and even suggest that those who do not follow his boycott demand do not love America.
This is Trump’s third day of attacking the NFL, starting at his unhinged rally in Alabama on Friday night. The backlash has been massive and relentless, including statements from the NFL commissioner, owners, and countless players.
#TakeAKnee has trended on Twitter throughout the weekend. NBA players, including Stephen Curry and Lebron James have denounced the president in no uncertain terms, and the first Major League Baseball player took a knee last night.
Trump’s initial attack targeted 49ers player Colin Kaepernick, who began taking a knee rather than standing during the National Anthem, in protest of systemic racism and police brutality.
Panicked and on the defensive, Trump has broadened his attacks in the two days since, this morning targeting not just players, but also fans, and suggesting the league is not loyal to the United States:
…NFL attendance and ratings are WAY DOWN. Boring games yes, but many stay away because they love our country. League should back U.S.

Many more players are expected to take a knee at today’s games. The NFL’s vice president of communications stated this morning: “Tens of millions of Americans, and fans around the world, will come together today to celebrate our great game and our great country.”
This will not end well for Trump. He has galvanized the opposition, and his opposition is the American people.
