The numbers don't lie: Americans are increasingly disgusted with Donald Trump.

It is less than ten months into Donald Trump’s presidency, and Americans are only growing more and more fed up with his embarrassing, inept, and unpatriotic behavior.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll puts it into stark relief: a massive 58 percent of the country disapprove of Trump’s overall performance, while only 38 percent of the country approve — and that latter number is a 5 point drop from just last month.

And some of that erosion is coming from portions of Trump’s core supporters. Among white women without a four-year college degree, for example, the disapproval rating shot up eight points since September, from 46 percent to 54 percent. Furthermore, his support among independent voters is also slipping noticeably, from 41 percent in September to just 34 percent today.

The reality is clear: Trump is historically unpopular:

Trump’s job approval rating of 38 percent is the lowest in modern times for a president at this stage of his presidency. The NBC/WSJ poll had George W. Bush at 88 percent, Barack Obama at 51 percent and Bill Clinton at 47 percent in the fall of their first year as president.

As Democratic pollster Fred Yang, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff, put it, “We could be seeing signs where there’s a little bit of fraying of the Trump base.”

And Trump would have only himself to blame for that.

In particular, Americans are largely put off by Trump’s weeks-long attacks on athletes who choose to take a knee during the national anthem, with 59 percent disapproving and only 30 percent agreeing with Trump’s unpatriotic tantrums.

And his series of horrendous responses to the devastation in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria was also resoundingly panned, as 54 percent of respondents said they disapproved of his handling of that storm and the aftermath.

Trump may have thought that this kind of blatant catering to white supremacists and disregard for the lives and concerns of people of color — including his heartless treatment of Myeshia Johnson, the grieving widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, who was slain in an ambush after being sent into harm’s way by Trump and against military advice — would be enough to keep his numbers out of the cellar.

But as Shareblue Media’s executive editor Jess McIntosh noted, “Only 26 percent of America even voted for Donald Trump in the first place.”

“And since he has gotten into office,” she continued, “he has made very clear that the only people he’s interested in catering to are that incredibly xenophobic, white nationalist base that he has.”

And the rest of the nation has taken notice.

Trump’s repugnant behavior “can only appeal to a very small, hateful segment of the population,” McIntosh noted.

“The vast majority of Americans understand that that is profoundly un-American and reject it 100 percent.”

As the nation awaits news of the details within special counsel Robert Mueller’s first indictments in the Russia investigation, and as Trump goes into full meltdown mode as the minutes tick by, things aren’t going to improve for this administration any time soon.

And the polls will surely continue to show just how disgusted the nation is with this callous, incompetent, and thoroughly un-American president.
